Ofrenda and Vigilia: Cocktails with Tequila for Day of the Dead


David Ampudia @ampudia.david, Brand Ambassador of Altos Tequila in Mexico, prepared two cocktails with Altos Plata and Altos Reposado especially for the Tahona Society community; they were created to evoke the spirit of the most anticipated holiday of the year: Day of the Dead!

Ofrenda Cocktail for Day of the Dead

 Ingredients

  • 60 ml Altos Plata
  • 30 ml mandarin or orange marmalade
  • 30 ml fresh pineapple juice
  • 30 ml cinnamon infusion 
  • marigold flower, for garnish 
  • pineapple leaves, for garnish

Method

Pour all of the ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well. Serve into a long drink glass.  Garnish with marigold flower and pineapple leaves. 

Vigilia Cocktail for Day of the Dead

Vigilia Cocktail for Day of the Dead

Ingredients

  • 60 ml Altos Reposado 
  • 60 ml punch concentrate*
  • 30 ml orange juice 
  • 30 ml orange bitters 
  • cinnamon stick, for garnish
  • sugar skull, for garnish 


Method


In a mixing glass add the ingredients and stir. Serve into an old fashioned glass with ice. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and sugar skill.

*Punch Concentrate

  • 1 liter water 
  • 1 cinammon stick 
  • 2 cloves
  • 3 anise stars 
  • 1 cup dried hibiscus flowers 
  • ½ kg brown sugar 
  • 1 apple, cut into small cubes

For the punch concentrate, boil the water and add all the spices. When the water boils again, lower the heat to simmer. Add the hibiscus flowers, the sugar and the apple. Simmer. Let reduce for 15 minutes. Strain and reserve.
