We know that World Environment Day was celebrated on June 5th, but we wanted to extend it to an entire month! As a community, we know raising awareness is important, and Altos Tequila is joining the cause by sharing the efforts it makes in areas such as sustainable sourcing, water conservation, sustainable packaging, and renewable energy.
World Environment Day, organized by the United Nations, aims to shine a light on environmental issues worldwide and promote political action. First celebrated in 1974, it is an opportunity to raise awareness about environmental concerns, advocate for sustainable practices, and encourage actions to protect the environment.
World Environment Day is celebrated with a wide range of activities worldwide such as seminars, workshops, and talks aimed at educating people. Additionally, there are community cleanups of parks, beaches, and neighborhoods, tree planting, campaigns to raise awareness about plastic pollution, climate change, and deforestation, and social media campaigns under the #WorldEnviromentDay hashtag.ย
As a community of bartenders, we are aware that our industry generates tons of organic and glass waste. We must address environmental issues and encourage collective action. As an industry, we can influence environmental policies and encourage governments and companies to commit to sustainable practices and regulations!
As we said before, for us, World Environment Day has become World Environment Month to unite the global community in addressing environmental issues. Each one of us serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining a healthy planet, taking care of water, and encouraging everyone to take both big and small actions to safeguard the environment for future generations.
Finally, we want to celebrate Altos Tequila’s commitment to our planet by sharing four facts that highlight the significance of our efforts:
Altos tequila bottles have been improved to be 5.6% lighter, resulting in 5.7% less CO2 emissions and containing 3% recycled content.
The distillery uses 100% renewable energy sourced from solar power to cover its energy consumption, and it has #greencertificates to verify its environmental sustainability.
FSA SAI Silver certification validates our sustainability performance, ensuring the highest-quality agave plantations. ARA (Agave Responsible Ambiental) guarantees that our tequila is made with agaves planted in plots that have not caused deforestation.
We are participating in Charco Benditoโs water replenishment program, which aims to restore a section of the Cajititlan micro-basin in the Santiago Guadalajara River Basin to help us achieve our goal of replenishing all the water used in production processes by 2030.
By highlighting sustainable practices such as water conservation, renewable energy, and eco-friendly packaging, we can inspire collective action and a long-term commitment to preserving our planet. Altos Tequila’s initiatives showcase how responsible business practices can make a significant impact, reminding us that every effort counts in building a sustainable future.
